Chinese classical gardens are an important heritage of human civilization, a skillful and mysterious work of the East, and an elegant representative of Chinese culture. They are not only a delicate representation of the beauty of nature, but also a profound expression of humanistic spirit. Due to different geographical conditions, gardens in the north and south have different appearances. Northern gardens are known for their grand and rigorous layout, showcasing a majestic and magnificent beauty; Southern gardens are renowned for their intricate designs and dynamic charm, exuding a gentle and delicate demeanor. Each has its own strengths, yet they are also similar in style.
Suzhou, a city where classical and modern elements are intertwined, has been a gathering place for gardens in Jiangnan since ancient times. With thousands of years of ups and downs, pavilions and towers have come to mind. The "Jia Tian Xia - China's' North South Gardens' Oil Painting Exhibition" is jointly organized by Beijing Haidian Art Museum (North Hall) and Suzhou Public Cultural Center (Suzhou Art Museum). It brings together 91 excellent works from many domestic oil painting masters, depicting the beauty of Eastern gardens with Western techniques, giving new vitality to ancient cultural relics, integrating artistic and academic aspects, and showcasing the charm of gardens in the north and south through the collision of two cultural forms.
Artists use their keen observation and exquisite skills to capture a scene, detail, and emotion in a garden, and freeze the appearance, charm, and atmosphere of the garden on the canvas. This is not only a vivid representation of the beauty of Chinese classical gardens, but also a deep understanding of Chinese culture, and a high comprehension of human civilization. We hope to use exhibitions as a medium and exhibits as a thread to bridge the gap between classical and modern art, connect art with audiences, and connect Suzhou with the world. With the colorful colors of Jiangnan, we aim to depict a great new era scene and make Suzhou's contribution to better meeting the spiritual and cultural needs of the people and building a socialist cultural power!
We hope that this "Best in the World - China's' North South Gardens' Oil Painting Exhibition" can become an artistic bridge, organically connecting gardens and oil paintings with the audience, so that everyone can enjoy the extraordinary charm of the North South Gardens closely, and work together to inherit and promote this precious cultural heritage
