Before Cao Yuan's solo exhibition, he was silent and lifeless

On June 26, 2026, the solo exhibition "Le Silence Avant la forme Wusheng" by Chinese artist Cao Yuan, planned by curator Zhou Wumo, officially opened at the Maison de Privas in the Ard è che department of France.

The exhibition revolves around the artist's "Wusheng" series, which has been continuously created in recent years. Through fiber installations, photography, and visual works, it explores time, memory, life, and space, presenting a visual experience that combines Eastern philosophy and contemporary art language.

The opening ceremony attracted people from the local cultural, artistic, and social circles to visit and exchange ideas. Michel Valla, Mayor of Priva, Fr é d é rique Mounier, Deputy Mayor for Cultural Affairs, and Guy Hernandez, President of the Franco Asian Friendship Association, attended the opening ceremony and gave high praise to the exhibition.

多位嘉宾在致辞中表示,曹原的作品与普里瓦之间存在着一种“自然而然的缘分”。

The Ardesh region where Priva is located has a long history of silk industry. Since the 19th century, this place has been renowned for its silk industry, with textiles, weaving, and handicrafts deeply integrated into the city's development and forming an important cultural memory of the area. Cao Yuan always regarded "line" as the most important artistic language, depositing time, memory, and life experience into fibers through repeated and slow manual processes such as winding, weaving, and construction. The artist's continuous exploration of fiber materials and the profound silk culture of Priva have formed a cross regional and epochal resonance, giving this exhibition a special local significance.

The guests believe that Cao Yuan did not treat fiber solely as a material, but rather endowed it with a spiritual dimension. The work combines the characteristics of painting, sculpture, and spatial installation, displaying profound and pure artistic thinking in a highly restrained form. This kind of creation that combines international perspective and philosophical depth is particularly precious in cultural cities like Priva, and also brings local audiences a different artistic experience than before.

They also expressed their hope that in the future, Privas can continue to hold more high-quality international contemporary art exhibitions, further deepen cultural exchanges with Chinese artists, allow art practices from different cultural backgrounds to meet and dialogue here, jointly enrich the cultural ecology of the city, and make Maison de Privas an important platform for connecting international art.

作为本次展览策展人,周妩墨表示,《无生》不仅是一场关于纤维艺术的展览,更是一场关于“时间”的展览。

The 'line' in the work is both material and memory, a slow growing time. It constantly intertwines and extends, connecting people to people, people to nature, and the invisible but always existing connections between different cultures. The landing of this exhibition in Priva not only establishes a new connection between contemporary Chinese art and local French culture, but also gives new vitality to silk, fiber, and handmade traditions in the context of contemporary art.
